Christina was born and raised in Payson, AZ. She is the mother of three and has spent the last 15 years volunteering and working with many local organizations. She was a foster parent to three amazing kids for about a year. She worked at the local elementary schools. She also held a board position as Junior Regent and Senior Regent for the Woman of the Moose. Additionally, she worked at an attorney’s office for over a year learning family law.
At the age of four, Christina was diagnosed with a rare heart and lung disease caused by irreparable medical malpractice. The condition has caused severe damage and complications to both her heart and lungs, making it difficult to hold down a single job. When Brandon had back surgery and Christina started coughing up blood, the possibility of taking over Back To Basics came to light ‒ and everyone felt it was a good idea.
Brandon moved from Colorado Springs, CO, to Payson, AZ, in 1996 with his mother and three brothers. After moving between Colorado and Arizona over the years, he has finally settled here in Payson. He married Christina Furlong and today is the father of three girls.
Before acquiring Back To Basics, Brandon worked as a delivery driver for CarQuest. After having back surgery, he was no longer able to work in that field and became a stay-at-home dad. When the opportunity to purchase Back To Basics from a friend, the family felt this was the right move. He currently works Wednesdays at Back To Basics, while the remainder of his week is spent as a phone repair specialist at Verizon Wireless Payson in Swiss Village.
Born and raised in Payson, AZ, Nikki is the mother of two. Before becoming part of the Back To Basics team, Nikki worked as a team member at KFC while she completed CNA training and worked with the elderly at Payson Care Center.
After deciding the medical field was not for her, she returned to KFC and worked her way up to assistant manager. After KFC closed their doors, Nikki worked as a team member at Maverick. Nikki joined Back To Basics in 2018, where she started as and remains the boss lady ‒ even the boss of Brandon and Christina.
Janice has followed natural health for 40+ years. She is the mother of Brandon’s childhood friend and has known the Furlong family for the last 20 years. She has worked for Back To Basics twice, once before the Furlong’s took over, and again in 2017. She moved to Payson, AZ, in 2021.
For Janice, natural health and studying herbs are her passions. She has taken herbalist courses and a kinesiology course. She uses what she has taken from her personal experiences with herbs and natural health and relates it to her customers.
Born and raised in Payson, AZ, Crystal is the mother of six children. She completed her CNA course and worked with the handicapped at Arizona Mentors. Becoming a mother at 19, on top of the demanding hours of being a CNA, became too much, so she took jobs as a bartender and waitress until she married and became a stay-at-home mother and wife.
After her youngest child became school aged and her oldest child moved out, Crystal decided it was time to return to work after 17 years of staying home. Crystal worked as a chief at Majestic Rim Retirement Home. When the opportunity to become an employee at Back To Basics presented itself, she took it and hasn’t left since.
My name is Andrea and I have been with Back to Basics since 2013. My husband and I live here in Payson and we love to just chill out at home, cook, bake (and eat!) together, and we spend a lot of our free time volunteering. I have learned a lot in my time here and am always continuing to learn about herbs, supplements, nutrition, and new trends in the natural industry. I do a little bit of everything around the store, and I am also the one who writes our free Back to Basics newsletter!
Together we have built a team of family and friends. With the experience of so many different areas it has helped build our store into so much more. We all have become more Natural and Healthy as well and we have all been studying the benefits of natural health so that we can serve our customers to the best of our ability.”

“Super friendly staff. Nice store. They had the items I needed at a great price. The lovely woman running the store Saturday afternoon was very tolerant of my admittedly noisy and excited high needs children which was such a blessing for us.”
“Amazing health store! Not your typical one. Massive varieties of everything! Small yet so efficient. Locally owned and very cozy. Do Terra Essential oil station and juice bar!”
“Awesome little shop! Great find in a small town. We are from out of town and wanted to make an herbal infusion for my bfs health issues and was so happy to find this little store. They had a big selection of herbs so I was very happy to find a marshmallow root! The lady working there gave me some tips on trails nearby ! Oh and they had a ton of essential oils ! Love it.”
“Love this place. They have what no one else in town has. Specialty flours to accommodate all your baking needs and so much more. Fresh almond butter, yum, local honey, most vitamins and healthy items some of which you can’t even pronounce. IF THEY DONT HAVE IT, YOU DONT NEED IT.”
